PAUL McPHEE and ANNABEL NIVEN for R&A JUNIOR OPEN

LATE NEWS: Paul McPhee (King James VI) has been nominated by the Scottish Golf Union to be Scotland's boy representative in the R&A Junior Open for Under-16s at Hesketh Golf Club, Lancashire at the start of Open championship week (July 14 to 16).
Annabel Niven (Crieff) has already been named by the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association as Scotland's girl representative.

Paul McPhee leads by two shots

at halfway in England U-16s

Perth's Paul McPhee, from the King James VI club on an island in the River Tay, led the 46 qualifiers for the final two rounds of the English Under-16 boys' golf championship for the McGregor Trophy at High Post Golf Club, Wiltshire today.
McPhee, the Scottish Under-14 boys stroke-play champion two years ago at Deeside, added a one-under-par 69 to the first-day 67 which had seen him in a triple tie for the lead.
But Paul's four-under-par halfway total of 136 put him clear of the field. He has had 11 birdies over the first 36 holes including five more, at the second, third, eighth and 14th, in his second round.
His nearest challenger is Jamie Carney (Shirley) who has scored 71 and 67 for 138.
The only other Scots to survive the halfway cut were Aberdeen's Jack Scott (Deeside) with 74 and 71 for a share of 24th place on 145 and Scott Gibson (Southerness) who made it right on the limit mark of 147 with a 78 and a very good second-round 69 which had birdies at the second, sixth, 10th and 18th.
Jack Scott bogeyed the last two holes when he looked set to break 70.
Calum Stewart (Brora) missed out with 151 (77-74), Rodger Clarke (Moray) with 153 (80-73), despite an outward half of 33 in his second rund, Ian Redford (King James VI) on 155 (77-78), the outward half costing him 41 shots in the first round and 40 in the second, Conor O'Neil (Pollok) 156 (83-73) and Jordyn Rhind (Uphall) 160 (87-73).
