Calum (65) leads Scots
to good first-day Euro
effort in Turin
Scotland's team of six scored well on the opening day of the European men's amateur team championship at Royal Park Golf Club in Turin, Italy.
Top-ranked Calum Macaulay (Tulliallan), pictured left by Cal Carson Golf Agency, led the way with a 65 (31-34) over the par-72 course.
He had birdies at the third, fifth, seventh, eighth, ninth, 10th, 15th and 17th. Only one blemish on his scorecard - a bogey at the 14th.
Wallace Booth (Comrie), the last Scot to finish, in the evening, backed him up with a very good 69 (33-36). Wallace birdied the first, second, fifth and 15th. His only bogey came at the very last hole.
Gavin Dear (Murrayshall) had a 70 (36-34), followed by Keir McNicoll (Carnoustie) with a 72 (35-37) and Paul O'Hara (Colville Park) with a 73 (36-37).
Scottish boys match-play champion Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) had the non-counting score of 76 (40-36) but it's all good experience for teenage Michael who will be playing for the Scotland boys' squad in next week's European boys' team championship at Bled, Slovenia.
Scotland's best five from six total for the first day was 349, matched only by France, with Sweden and Spain still to finish but needing a few birdies to hit the 349 mark.
