Scots claim No 1 seed position - and play
title-holders France in first match
A brilliant round of 65 by Wallace Booth - one of the last players to finish - clinched Scotland's position as top seeds for the match-play stages of the European men's amateur team golf championship at the Royal Park Golf & Country Club, Turin in Italy today.
Comrie's Booth, who scored 69 in the first qualifying round, also topped the individual scoring charts on 10-under-par 134.
Tulliallan's Calum Macaulay was joint second best with Jorge Campillo (Spain) on 135 after tagging a 70 on to his first-day 65.
Scotland's other scores in the second qualifying round were 70s from Gavin Dear (Murrayshall) and Scottish boys champion Michael Stewart (Troon Wellbeck) - a six-shot improvement by the teenager - a 74 by Paul O'Hara (Colville Park) and a 72 by Keir McNicoll (Carnoustie).
Scotland finished the card-and-pencil stage with a best five from six players' team total of 22 under par 698.
Second were Sweden, placed ahead of Germany who also totalled 703.
England (705) qualified in fourth place.
Italy (708), Spain (709), Ireland (719) and France (722).
That means the Scots' first opponents in the match-play will be France, winners of the European title at Western Gailes 12 months ago.
The French had the same first-day total of 349 as Scotland but while the Scots repeated that total today, the French went walkabout with a total of 373 which almost cost them a place in the championship group.
Wales (726) failed to make it.
