QUALITY FIELD ASSEMBLING FOR CELTIC PRO
TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP AT CHEPSTOW

Next week sees the final event of this season’s Celtic Pro Tour, with the best field of the year expected for the Tour Championship at the Marriott St Pierre, near Chepstow.
Big guns already entered.include former Kenyan Open winner James Lee (Caerphilly), former European Tour professional Marcus Wills (unattached) and this season’s Ryder Cup Wales 2010 Welsh Open Young PGA Professional Champion Adam Constable (Cardiff), who also won the Tour’s East Wales Classic at Cottrell Park.
They will be joined by this season’s Tour event winners – Richard Hooper (amateur, Neath) – South Wales Open winner at Pyle and Kenfig; former Walker Cup squad member and Irish amateur champion, Gavin McNeill (Waterford) – Wexford Open winner at Seafield; Matthew Griffiths (unattached) – Carmarthen Bay Open winner at Machynys Peninsula; Matthew Dearden (www.vale-hotel.com) – West Wales Classic winner at Ashburnham; Pete James (amateur, Belmont Lodge, Hereford) – Swansea Bay Open at Clyne.
Double winner and current Order of Merit leader, David Price (Aber Wrought Iron / www.vale-hotel.com) is one of the favourites for the title, having clinched both his Tour wins within the last two weeks. The former Wales and Portuguese amateur champion and Walker Cup squad member, has been in a rich vein of form recently with wins in the South East Wales Open (St Mary’s) and Grampian Open (Murcar Links, Scotland).
The Tour Championship, from 17-19 October, will have a prize fund of over £6,000 with £2,500 going to the winner and the top 25% of the field also being in the money.
“A number of golfers have entered the event to get in some competitive practice before they move on to stage 2 of qualifying for the European Tour School, having successfully negotiated the tricky first stage,” said Tour director, Rhydian Thomas.
“These include last year’s Dragon Tour Order of Merit winner Alex Smith (Pyle and Kenfig), who also won the West Wales Open at Gower earlier this season; Challenge Tour player James Williams (Pontypridd), current Welsh Amateur international Ryan Thomas (Aberdare) and Scottish duo Jack Doherty (Picture Financial) and brother Paul (www.vale-hotel.com).”
From the entries received so far, all four home nations are represented – nine from England, five Scots, one Irishman and over 30 Welsh golfers, giving a strong Celtic feel to the event.
