LEWIS KIRTON SHOOTS BEST-YET 65
ON US COLLEGE CIRCUIT

Oldmeldrum exile Lewis Kirton, a second-year student at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, shot his lowest round yet on the US college golf ciruit with a six-under-par 65 in the second round of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational tournament at The Meadow Club, Fairfax in California.
Newmachar member Kirton, a former Scotland boy international, had a bogey at the second and a bogey at the 18th but in between he packed eight birdies in halves of 33 (two under par) and 32 (four under).
Kirton, who had begun with a 75, was lying joint 31st on 140 going into the final round of the 54-hole event.
Another North-east product, Banchory's James Byrne, a freshman at Arizona State University, was in joint 41st place on 142 after scoes of 73 and 69. His second round included a double bogey 6 at the sixth but he birdied the 10th, 12th, 13th and 16th over the par-71, 6,686yd course.
Darly Fathauer, a team-mate of Kirton, led the field by three shots at 14-under-par 128 with scores of 61 and 67.
