McINNES LEADS BY ONE GOING INTO FINAL
ROUND OF SCOTTISH ALLIANCE CHAMPIONSHIP

Only five strokes span the top 11 players as the Scottish Golfers’ Alliance championship moves into its final round tomorrow over the Monifieth Links.
Graeme McInnes (Murcar Links) is the man with a one-shot advantage over the chasing pack after a second-round, par-matching 70 at Arbroath today for a four-under-par tally of 137.
Alastair Webster (Edzell), sharing the overnight lead on 67, fell away with a 75 at Monifieth for 142.
Craig Mathieson (Falkirk Tryst) took over as McInnes’ closest challenger on 138 after a three-under-par 67, the best round of the day at Arbroath.
In third place on 140 is Tartan Tour regular Alan Lockhart (Ladybank) after a 68 at Arbroath.
Scoring seemed to be slightly more difficult at Monifieth where Meldrum House amateur Craig Stephen, a +2 player, had the best round of 70 for a 143 tally.
Ian McLeod, senior pro at Monifeith, and rookie pro Duncan Stewart (Grantown on Spey) both had 71s at Monifieth.
The leading amateur will win the Clydesdale Bank Quaich and that should be a close-run thing as well. Glenbervie scratch man Ron Johnston and Martin McPhee (Bishopbriggs), who plays off 1, are best placed on 142 but Craig Stephen is only one shot behind them and former amateur title winner Bryan Fotheringham, who plays off +3 at Forres, is not out of it by any means on 145.
