Bon Accord player wins Jaffrey Cup for second time

EDMOND WINS NORTH-EAST DISTRICT
MATCH-PLAY TITLE

Bon Accord’s Barrie Edmond, playing in his fifth Jaffrey Cup final in the past six years, won the North-east District match-play title for a second time by beating Bryan Innes (Murcar Links) in atrocious conditions of mist and rain at Portlethen Golf Club tonight.
Edmond, who had a neck operation five weeks ago, and has only recently resumed played, took one hole to complete a 21st hole semi-final win over Gary Esson (Portlethen) – they had played 20 holes on Monday evening – and quickly went one up against Innes with a drive, five-iron and a 15ft putt for an eagle 3 at the fourth.
Innes hit back with a bird 2 at the short fifth to square the game but Edmond got one hand on the trophy he last won at Banchory in 2003 by winning the eighth, ninth and 10th to go three up.
Innes bogeyed the eighth but Edmond birdied the ninth and 10th , where he hit“a career three-iron to within 2 1/2ft” of the stick.
Innes did get one hole back with a pitch and putt par 4 at the 15th but he conceded the hole, the match and the title at the 17th where Edmond, a +2 player, hit another top-quality long iron, a No 4 this time, to within 10ft of the flag.
Considering the poor visibility and the thoroughly unpleasant conditions overhead and underfoot, it had been a final of very good play.
Results:
Semi-final – B Edmond (Bon Accord) bt G Esson (Portlethen) at 21st.
Final – Edmond bt B Innes (Murcar Links) 3 and 1.
