JAMES BYRNE TO MISS BRITISH BOYS' CHAMPIONSHIP
Banchory's world-ranked teenager James Byrne will miss the British boys' championship - for which he would have been one of the favourites - at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, South Wales from August 13 to 18.
He starts a four-year golf scholarship course at Arizona State University next month and must be in Phoenix for the orientation of first-year students, which begins on August 16, four days before classes start.
James' father Paul explained: " As James can't miss the orientation week at ASU, he will have to miss the British boys' championship. He will leave for Arizona on August 14. He has two more individual tournaments to come before then - the Scottish boys' stroke-play at Cardrona (July 24-26) and the Scottish men's amateur championship at Prestwick (July 30-August 4).
