CELTIC PRO TOUR PRESS RELEASE

CRAIG SMITH WINS CARMARTHENSHIRE OPEN

Craig Smith, back in the UK from the Asian Tour, overcame blustery conditions at Garnant Park to take the honours in the Celtic Pro Tour’s Carmarthenshire Open today.
Smith, from the St Mellons club, finished level par after an up-and-down round on the final day, which included eight birdies, three bogeys, and a triple bogey on the 16th.
His round of 70 equalled the professional course record, set by overnight leader David Price (Aber Wrought Iron / www.vale-hotel.com).
Smith earned the £1,000 winner’s cheque to add to the $40,000 he has won on the Asian Tour so far this year.
Price fell back on day two to finish +1 over the two days to share runners-up spot with Matthew Griffiths (Whitchurch), winner of the Carmarthen Bay Open at Machynys Peninsula last month.
Last year’s Order of Merit winner Alex Smith (Pyle and Kenfig) shared fourth place with Matthew Prior at +2.
The Tour, incorporating the Dragon Tour, moves up to Aberdovey Golf Club for the Mid Wales Classic next week, Thursday 19th and Friday 20th July.
Spectators are welcome at all Celtic Pro Tour events, free of charge.
Entries are still being taken for the event and professional golfers or scratch handicap amateurs wishing to enter are asked to contact Rhydian Thomas on 07861 686568 or register and pay online at the website at www.celticpro.com
Professional entry is £99, plus £50 for non members. Amateur golfers with a scratch handicap or better can also enter at a cost of £55, and don’t need to pay membership.
