DAVID LAW PUTS HAZLEHEAD BACK ON THE MAP
BY LEADING IN SCOTTISH U-16 BOYS' EVENT

Hazlehead, the Aberdeen municipal course-based club that produced Walker Cup player Sandy Pirie in the 1960s, has another potential star on its junior members’ roll.
He’s David Law who has show rounds of 74 and 72 to be 36-hole leader in the Douglas Gillespie Scottish Under-16 boys’ open championship with a two-over-par total of 146 at Brunston Castle Golf Club in south Ayrshire.
Overnight leader Jamie Lynch fell away from an opening 70 to an 81 for 151 and is joint 11th going into Thursday’s final round.
Law’s par-matching 72 was not the lowest second-round score – that honour was claimed by Chris Howe (Hollins Hall) with a 71 (10 shots better than his Tuesday score) – but it was good enough to put the Boy David up into the pole position.
He leads by one shot from Billy Downing, who has been making the long, long trek up from Truro for a number of years now, and Perth’s Ian Redford (King James VI).
It really is a tightly-grouped scoreboard. After Tom Blennerhassett (Marriott Dalmahoy) in fourth place on 148, there are four lads on 149, two on 150, three on 151 and four on 152.
A sub-par score could win the title for almost anyone in the top 10 overnight.
A total of 42 players with 36-hole totals of 159 or better qualified for the final day.
