CARNOUSTIE GOLF LINKS PRESS RELEASE
YOU CAN FOLLOW IN HARRINGTON'S
FOOTSTEPS IN 2008 FOR £125
After what will go down in history as one of the finest Open Championships ever to be staged, golfers will be pleased to know that they will soon be able to test their games on one of the world’s greatest courses, as Carnoustie Golf Links will soon be offering visitors the opportunity to reserve tee-times for 2008.
Green fees for the famous Championship course in 2008 will be available to book from August 6th at a cost of £125, or for £145 why not take the opportunity to play a round on each of Carnoustie’s three fine courses, the Championship, Burnside and Buddon Links.
“We are delighted to be able to offer golfers the opportunity to reserve green-fees for 2008 so soon after what was such a memorable Open Championship, won in dramatic fashion by Padraig Harrington,” said Graeme Duncan, General Manager of the Carnoustie Golf Links Management Committee.
“We believe that our green-fee structure represents fantastic value and gives visitors a great chance to not only take on the challenge of the Championship course, but also experience both the Burnside and Buddon courses, which also provide excellent tests of golf.”
The Championship course at Carnoustie needs no introduction, since 1931 it has hosted a total of seven Open Championships, boasting such fine champions as Henry Cotton, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Tom Watson, Paul Lawrie, and now the first European Major winner in 8 years, Padraig Harrington, can be added to that list, after his nail biting play-off victory over Sergio Garcia, that provided such a fitting finale to a week which saw Carnoustie’s Championship course shine under the spotlight of the world’s best players.
“The golf course is hard, but it's fair. I think it's a fantastic test.” Tiger Woods
“I didn’t realise what a wonderful golf course it is. It’s terrific.” Phil Mickelson.
“One of the toughest and best links courses that we have in the world,” Colin Montgomerie
“It's got length. It's got great bunkering. You've really got to have your wits with you to play this golf course. It's probably the best bunkered course that you'll ever find anywhere in the world.” Ernie Els
“There isn’t a player who didn’t find this course a test and enjoyed that test. Credit to Carnoustie, it’s one of the best in the world,” Padraig Harrington
The Burnside course has been used as an Open Qualifying venue on a number of occasions and it was there the legendary Ben Hogan began his successful quest to win the Open Championship back in 1953.

The Burnside course has been used as an Open Qualifying venue on a number of occasions and it was there the legendary Ben Hogan began his successful quest to win the Open Championship back in 1953.
At 6,028 yards it is not long by modern standards, but it is still a fine test for amateur golfers of all levels, not least because of a host of strategically-placed pot bunkers that are a trademark of all three of Carnoustie’s layouts.
The Buddon Links is Carnoustie’s newest course. It was designed by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas in the 1980s and has since been extensively upgraded. It measures 5,420 yards and has a par of 66.
