ELEMENTARY, WATSON WINS OVER-50s
OPEN AT MUIRFIELD

Tom Watson, winner of five Open championships, returned to Muirfield, the scene of his third one - in 1980 -- to regain the Senior British Open title he last held at Royal Aberdeen two years ago.
One of the most popular players on the world golf scene, Watson had a double bogey 6 at the last hole on his way to chalking up his third Senior British Open victory in the past five years.
It was his fifth senior major triumph. Seven of his eight major wins either side of 50 have been achieved on Scottish links.
Watson shot rounds of 70, 71, 70 and 73 for a level par total of 284 over arguably the toughest course yet set for the over-50s major in this country. The Muirfield course was 7,034 yards long and the rough was exceptionally long as well.
Watson won by one stroke from Stewart Ginn (Australia) and Mark O'Meara (US).
In all there were sixth Americans in the top eight finishers.
Watson made up for his back nine collapse at the US Senior Open at Whistling Straits three weeks ago where he blew a three-shot lead after 10 holes of the final round to finish fourth.
Making his debut tournament as a senior, Nick Faldo finished joint 14th, having peaked too early and tieing for the leading after the opening round.
