HUGH HUNTER'S NEWS FROM CLACKMANNAN
Clackmannan county team selectors have named a strong squad for the second tie in the area team championship against the North-east at Braehead on Sunday.
The match consists of four morning foursomes and six afternoon singles. A win for the county team is a must if they are to stand any chance of progressing to the finals of the event to be held at Powfoot Golf club on the first weekend on October.
Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan), bronze medallist in the Amateur, and Scottish youths champion Scott Borrowman (Dollar) lead the line up and will be well supported by Steven Horne and Mark Crichton (both Tulliallan), Ross Benvie (Braehead) and Alloa club champion Ian Ross.

Without a practice round, Andre managed to score a seven over par score of 77 over the difficult lay-out along the valley of the River Tweed. Next day he went a shot better and ended up just missing the cut by two shots for the final two rounds. Bogeys at 10th, 11th and 13th both days (six over par on these holes) did not help. A good performance, nevertheless.
BOB STEWART ON THE WAY UP.
Tulliallan’s Bob Stewart is starting to make an impact on the Senior golfing scene in Scotland. In the West Seniors event at Hamilton last week, rounds of 77 and 72 lifted him in to seventh position, and the points awarded as a result brought him to 16th position in the Seniors Order of Merit.

His tournaments in the next two weeks are the East Seniors at Monifieth, and the British Seniors at Nairn, and with his improving form, he must have much more confidence. Said Bob
“I am now scoring a bit better, due to a bit of course management, than earlier in the season, and the 72 at Hamilton in difficult conditions was very pleasing.”
While the district seniors are 36-hole events, the British seniors is a three-round competition with a cut after two rounds leaving the top 50 to play the final round.
