SALLY WATSON'S LATE BIRDIES LIFT
HER IN FIRST ROUND OF
THUNDERBIRD INTERNATIONAL

Florida-based Sally Watson, 15, from South Queensferry had a first-round score of three-over-par 75 in the girls' section of the Thunderbird Junior International tournament over the 6,271yd girls' Raptor course at Grayhawk Golf Club, Scottsdale in Arizona.
Sally, pictured right, bogeyed the third, fifth and sixth before she settled to birdie the long seventh and turn in two-over-par 38.
A double bogey 6 at the 10th and a bogey at the 12th knocked her back to five over, but she finished strongly with birdies at the 14th and 18th for 37 home.
That gave her a share of 12th place in the strong international field.
Kimberley Kim from Hawaii was the first-round leader by three shots with a 67.
In the boys' event, Jack Hiluta (Chelmsford) was the best of the four English Golf Union squad members over a course measuring 7,113yd.
Hiluta had a 72 to be six shots behind the pacemaker, Arnond Vongjanij, based at Bradenton, Florida where David Leadbetter has his IMG Golf Academy.
