RAIN-FOG-RAIN ... NO, IT'S NOT SCOTLAND,
IT'S MADRID AND THE STOP-START-STOP
CHALLENGE TOUR EVENT

It was another disastrous day weather-wise on the European Challenge Tour's Open Mahou de Madrid at the Casino Club de Golf Retamares.
The first day had been bad enough with flooding. The second day got off to a bad start with the first two hours lost because of thick fog. After play did start, the rains returned in the afternoon and play had to be suspended for another couple of hours.
The officials have decided to cut the event to 54 holes they could be pushed even to get three rounds completed.
Scot Peter Whiteford, for instance, has played only three holes in his second round. There cannot be an official 36-hole cut until every player has completed 36 holes.
But West Linton-based Welshman Gareth Wright and Scott Henderson will have packed their bags and left Madrid already. Gareth had a disastrous 10-stroke slump from 67 in the first round to 77 in the second for 144.
Henderson followed up his opening 81 with a 77 for 158.
The projected cut-off score is 141.
