YATES JOINT FOURTH
AFTER THREE ROUNDS
IN SOUTH KOREA
Korea’s Bae Sang-moon was rock solid at the top of the pack as he opened up a four-stroke lead in the third round at the SK Telecom Open at Seoul, South Korea today.
Bae, who led since the opening day, solidified his position at the top of the leaderboard after a three-day total of 12-under-par 204 and took a commanding lead ahead of compatriot Kim Hyung-tae, who was even-par for the day, and American David Oh who shot a 70 in joint second place at the US$600,000 event.
Australia’s Aaron Baddeley, the winner of two PGA Tour titles, continued his rise when he carded a 71 in tied fourth spot alongside Choi Hyuk-jae who endured a slow 73 for a 209 total at the wind swept BA Vista Country Club.
Scottish exile Simon Yates, pictured above, enjoyed a bogey free round when he shot a 69 together with Kang Kyung-nam who stayed in the hunt after a 71 also in joint fourth place.
The 37-year-old Yates fired two birdies on the front nine and after a third birdie on the 10th hole, Yates, who is also an avid racing car driver, went on to par the remaining eight holes.
“It was very gusty out there. I stayed positive and it turned out well. The highlight for me was making no bogeys. I was putting solid out there. I hit it to three feet at the second hole and two- putted the par-5 third hole,” said Yates.
“I can’t afford to hit a wild shot here. I think seven under is not that far away from the leader. I have been playing well for a month now and hope to continue my run into the final round,” added Yates, who chalked up three top-10s this season on the Asian Tour that included a third place finish at the BMW Asian Open last month.
Three Scots in all made the halfway cut - Simon Dunn, who had a third-round 73 for 212 and joint 14th position and Ross Bain, who had a 72 for jt 38th place on 215.
