JORDAN FINDLAY’S MIXED
BAG IN US COLLEGIATE
CHAMPIONSHIP
Fraserburgh-born Jordan Findlay, a second-year golf scholarship student at East Tennessee State University, had a mixed bag of two birdies and seven bogeys in returning a first-round score of five-over-par 77 in the United States Collegiate Championship, being played over the Golf Club of Georgia’s Lakeside course at Alpharetta, Georgia.
Jordan, twice finalist in the British boys’ championship, was lying joint
45th in the field of 78 with two rounds to go.
He birdied the 14th and 18th but dropped shots at the fourth, seventh, 10th, 13th, 15th, 16th and 17th in halves of 38 and 39.
Joint leaders on two-under-par 70 for the 7,017yd course were Tanner Ervin (Clemson) and Chris Kirk (Georgia).
Another past British boys’ champion, Edinburgh-born Walker Cup player Rhys Davies, brought up in South Wales and a team-mate of Findlay, struggled to recapture the form that has won him 10 American college events in his four years at East Tennessee State.
Rhys returned a four-over 76 with birdies at the ninth, 11th and 16th but also seven bogeys in halves of 38.

Daniel Willett (Jacksonville State University) from Sheffield is lying in joint 11th place in a field of 91 players at the Arkansas State University Indian Classic over 54 holes at Sage Meadows Golf Club, Jonesboro in Arkansas.
Over a course of 6,903yd with a par of 72, Daniel has had rounds of 69 and 73 for a tally of two-under-par 142 - seven strokes behind leader Jose Toledo (New Orleans) (68-67).
Jacksonville State (572) are lying fourth of 16 in the team event behind leaders New Orleans (564).
