RENTON LAIDLAW: EASTER MONDAY BULLETIN

From Mitchell Platts of the European Tour.

Great news. I just took a call from Renton, phoning from his hospital bed. As you can imagine, quite a moment. So good to hear Renton's voice and even better to report straight from him that the cancer operation was a total success.
It was three weeks ago that the cancer operation - the first of three operations in 12 days - took place and Renton confirmed that it actually lasted 11hr 30min. The surgeon removed a very aggressive cancer absolutely cleanly and Renton has been assured all is well.
Renton also says that his heart is in great order thanks to the pacemaker which is working really well. Renton confirmed what we all feared that he had been dangerously ill, and that he had a very close escape from the Grim Reaper.
You will also be pleased to hear that he really is going to take things slowly - he will not be going to the Volvo China Open this week! Seriously, he is going to take things very, very slowly and look after himself before considering his comeback.
Jennifer (Renton's sister), as you know, has been ill but she returned to visit Renton today and she is clearly delighted with his progress. Mark and Joan Wilson visited Renton on Sunday at Jennifer's request and they found Renton walking with his arm around a nurse so, as Mark says, nothing new there.
Renton also dined last night on tomato soup, apple pie and ice cream so you can see he is back in the old routine. Renton asked me to thank everyone for their very special messages etc.....I said that for everyone the best news will be to know that with this bulletin I will ask everyone around the world who knows and loves him to raise a glass to a true fighter and a great guy. Regarding visiting - let's give Renton a little space. We spent only five minutes on the phone and that was probably quite enough.
Regards
Mitchell Platts
