12 year old Irish Girl wins Under 16 Strokeplay

12 year old Leona Maguire, pictured right, from the Slieve Russell club in County Cavan, Ireland, won the SLGA Under 16 Strokeplay Championship today at Craigielaw.
Leona, whose twin sister Lisa was also competing, played some very tidy golf to record a second three over par 74 which was only beaten today by Helen Searle from West End who had a 72, and Jamie-Lee Voss (Kirby Muxloe) who had a 73.
Leona's 148 total was two shots ahead of a three-way tie for second place between Helen Searle, Jamie-Lee Voss and Kelly Tidy (Manchester)
Many of the competitors found it very difficult to play in the wind, and Craigielaw's crowned greens and deep bunkers caused scores to soar.
Jill Meldrum (Dullater) had the best Scottish score, 157 after an 80 today.
Stephanie Peareth (Oakleaf) added a net 61 to yesterdays net 64 for a total of 125 off 22, and won the Murray Donald and Caithness Cup for the best net aggregate from Mhairi Mckay (West Kilbride) who was 12 shots back on 137.
England (299) won the Team Championship by 28 shots. Kelly Tidy and Raffi Dyer both had 74s, to add 148 to the 151 total from yesterday.
