SLGA Under 16 Open Strokeplay Championship Round1

Twelve year old Irish girl in the lead

One of the remarkable Irish twins, 12 year old Leona Maguire from Slieve Russell, leads the SLGA Under 16 Open Strokeplay Championship after the first round with an admirable scratch 74 over a fast running Craigielaw played in very sunny but blustery conditions. She is one shot ahead of two English girls, Heidi Baek (Felixstowe Ferry) and Holly Clyburn (Woodhall Spa).
Top Scot is Jill Meldrum from Dullater with a 77.
England are leading by 8 shots in the Team Championship with a total of 151 from Holly Clyburn and Kelly Tidy. Scotland's second team are in second place.
On a day when many of the low handicap players were struggling, special mention should be made of Stephanie Peareth (Oakleaf) who had a net 64 playing off a handicap of 22.
The two round tournament concludes tomorrow.
