ELLIOT SALTMAN MAKES PRO
DEBUT IN EUROPRO Q SCHOOL
Elliot Saltman, the oldest of the three talented golfing brothers at Craigielaw Golf Club, has taken the plunge.
Just turned 25, Elliot will make his debut as a professional in the PGA EuroPro Tour Final Qualifying School at Frilford Heath Golf Club, Oxfordshire, which tees off tomorrow.
Saltman qualified for the final by the skin of his teeth, coming through a six-man play-off for the last spot in last week’s Stage 1 event at Fulford Golf Club, York.
He could have continued to play as an amateur in the Final Q School but he has obviously decided that he has reached the now-or-never stage in his golfing career.
Earlier this year, Elliot outperformed all the official Scottish Golf Union entries for the Spanish men’s open amateur championship at Desert Springs. He reached the semi-finals before losing to the eventual title-winner, Englishman John Parry.
In 2005, Elliot won the North of Scotland open amateur stroke-play title for the David Blair Trophy at Elgin. Last year he had top 10 finishes in the North of Scotland Open, the North-east District Open, the Sutherland Chalice, the South-east District Open, the Tennant Cup and the Newlands Trophy – all 72-hole SGU Order of Merit events.
But, for some reason, the SGU international selectors continued to ignore his claims for a first Scotland cap.
On Saturday, he caddied for his youngest brother Zack in the first two rounds of the Craigmillar Park Open in Edinburgh where the title was won on Sunday by the middle and best know of the brothers, Walker Cup man Lloyd.
