GALLAGHER AS THREE SEEDS GO OUT
Only two seeds - Scott Jamieson (Cathkin Braes) in the first quarter and Lloyd Saltman (Craigielaw) in the third quarter - are left in the last 16 of the Allied Surveyors Scottish men's amateur championship at Nairn.
Three were eliminated in this morning's fourth round.
Defending champion Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie) lost by one hole to Elliot Saltman (Craigielaw) - whose younger brothers Lloyd and Zack are also through to the fifth round.
Walker Cup man Richie Ramsay (Royal Aberdeen) was beaten at the 19th by Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan), who plays on the American college circuit for the University of Mississippi and won the West of Scotland Open earlier this season.
Cack-handed John Gallagher (Swanston) became the third big-name ousted this morning. He lost by 3 and 1 to Terry Mathieson (Murcar Links), a semi-finalist in this championship four years ago and a man with a splendid match-play record for North-east District.
Mathieson now plays Grantown-on-Spey's Duncan Stewart, recent winner of the Chiberta Grand Prix in France and a key player for Jacksonville University, Florida on the American college circuit over the 2005-2006 season.
The winner of the Mathieson v Stewart tie will play the winner of the fifth round tie between teenager Graeme Mitchell (Northern) and Kevin McAlpine (Alyth), son of the former Dundee United goalkeeper Hamish and also a student at Colorado State University for the past four years.
