BOYS' HOME INTERNATIONALS
ENGLAND NAME SQUAD TO DEFEND
TITLE AT LOSSIEMOUTH
Darren Wright, the newly-crowned English Under-18 boys' champion, has been rewarded with a place in the England team that will defend the boys' home internationals title at Moray Golf Club, Lossiemouth, Scotland next week.
Wrightwas impressive in winning the under-18 open title for the Carris Trophy at Sherwood Forest last week with closing rounds of 64 and 67.
He is one of seven new caps in the 11-strong England team which is:
Bill Fowles (Wentworth)
Luke Goddard (Hendon)
Jack Hiluta (Chelmsford)
Adam Hodkinson (Hallowes)
Sam Hutsby (Lee-on-the-Solent)
Andrew Johnston (North Middlesex)
Nick McCarthy (Moortown)
Tom Oliver (Notts)
Eddie Pepperell (Frilford Heath)
Dale Whitnell (Forrester Park)
Darren Wright (Rowlands Castle).
Reserve: James Watts (East Herts).
The team will be captained by Hutsby, 17, who started the year by winning the Spanish amateur championship, beating Eduardo Molinari from Italy, last year's US amateur champion, by 7 and 6 over 36 holes.
Since then, Hutsby has finished joint runner-up in the McEvoy Trophy, fourth in the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters, and represented England in the World Junior Team Championships in Japan and the recent European Boys Team Championships in Sweden.
England will be defending an unbeaten run in the boys home internationals which goes back eight years. Previous to that Ireland were the winners in 1997.
