Twice past Scottish mid-amateur champion Allyn Dick (Kingsknowe) won the East of Scotland Open amateur stroke-play championship by a comfortable three strokes at Lundin Links today.
At the start of this season Dick was axed from the Scottish Golf Union funding list for elite players.
"I was told I was too old at the age of 33!" Dick said at the time.
Well, he was not too old to show this good-class field a clean pair of heels with an eight-under-par total of 276 with rounds of 71, 63, 71 and 71.
It was that eight-under-par second round that put Dick ahead to stay.  He led by three shots from Neil Henderson (Glen) with 18 holes to play but it was defending champion Paul Ferrier (Baberton), semi-finalist in the recent British amateur championship at Royal Troon, who came through to fill the runner-up spot with a closing 69 for 279.
Four players shared third place on 271 - Scott Borrowman (Dollar), the former Scottish youths' champion's best open event performance for some time, Michael Daily (Erskine), Steven Maxwell (Windyhill) and Henderson.
