Two suspensions of play at Carnoustie because of haar

Allied Surveyors Scottish amateur

championship has backlog of ties

North Sea haar, that curse of Scotland's East Coast links courses, has thrown the Allied Surveyors Scottish amateur championship off schedule. The second day's play suffered two suspensions because of fog and play was finally abandoned for the day at 6.45pm

At that point there were 26 first-round ties still out on the course and three games still to start.

Seeds who made it through to the second round on the stop-start-stop day were No 3 Keir McNicoll (Carnoustie) and former champion Glenn Campbell (Blairgowre), the No 7 seed.

Wallace Booth (Comrie), the No2 seed, is involved in one of the ties called in off the course because of the poor visibility. He is playing Euan McIntosh (Newmachar).

William Bremner (Edzell), beaten finalist in the Scottish boys championship last year, had a good two-hole win over Neil Henderson (Glen), last year's Scottish schoolboys champion and junior champion of champions. Bremner, who had a good first year at an American college,

Bremner now plays No 3 seed Keir McNicoll.
