PITREAVIE PAIR WIN TRIP TO BAHRAIN
- BUT ONLY ON THEIR LAST SIX HOLES
Pitreavie Golf Club, Dunfermline's professional Paul Brookes and club captain Ewan Cameron survived a card countback by a narrow margin to win the Scottish Regional qualifying round of the Gulf Air International Pro-Captain Challenge tournament at Crail Golfing Society's links course in Fife today.
Brookes and Cameron, who plays off five, returned an eight-under-par net score of 61 ... but so too did the Panmure Golf Club, Carnoustie pairing of Andrew Crerar and David Crawford, an eight-handicapper.
A comparision of their net inward halves was the first tie-breaker but there were still equal on that. And so it went to the last six holes over which Brookes and Cameron just managhed to shade Crerar and Crawford to be the PGA Scottish Region's representatives in the Grand Final to be held at The Riffa Golf Club and Resort, Bahrain later in the year.
There was also a card play-off for third place on seven-under-par 62. Steve Dunsmore, the Falkirk Tryst professional, and captain Gary McSorley (13) tied on that net score with Paul Wardell (Whitekirk) and Guido Bicocci (6). This time the better inward half of Dunsmore and McSorley gave them third place.
A total of 29 teams took part on a day when the early morning mist swirling in from the North Sea delayed the start by an hour.
