Inverness hotelier sponsors Loch
Ness club foursomes
Keen golfer and Inverness hotelier Ken Stott has decided it is time to put some of his hard earned cash back into the game he loves while supporting and encouraging his fellow monster golf club members.
Loch Ness Golf Club has been the home to Ken Stott since he took up golf in 2000 and he has enjoyed many happy hours on the course but none more so than in 2006 when, along with partner Donald Sutherland, he won the club’s foursomes match-play competition.
To prove this was no fluke they reached the final the following year and while they were both delighted to have their name on the trophy and walk away with a memento of the occasion Ken thought there was something missing.
So, after a bit of thought, he will be putting up the prizes for this year’s event along with supplying some rather elegant trophies for the winners and runners up.
Ken said “I have been a supporter of the club for many years and after my heart operation the doctor said that I needed more exercise and recommended golf. As I was pretty keen anyway he didn’t have to say it twice.
"While my handicap may not have come down as much as I would like, I am certainly more competitive and Donald I seem to gel at foursomes. The annual match-play competition is a great way of meeting new people and making new friends so it seemed obvious to me that I should be putting something back into the event, considering how much I have got out of it. "Donald and I will be trying as hard as ever to win once again in 2008 and but I will be delighted to hand over the prizes at the end of the year to whoever turns out to be the next champions."
Tom Smith, Loch Ness Golf Club captain for 2008, responded by saying “We are all delighted at the club by the magnificent gesture from Ken. He has had a few health problems in the recent past but he has bounced back remarkably well and in fact I think his golf is even better than before!
"The amount of money and prizes that Ken has put forward this year will certainly focus the minds of the competitors and will lead to some exciting golf over the next few months. We can but thank Ken for his generosity and I look forward to seeing him in the final!”
