Dan’s the man for Midas Tour prize

Australian Dan Gaunt finished four strokes ahead of his nearest rival to lift the £1,100 first prize on the Midas Tour’s event at The Menzies Cambridge Hotel and Golf Club.
Gaunt, from Selsdon Park Golf Club, Surrey, has played on the European Tour and the Sunshine Tour. His two-round score of 135 (65 and 70) left him nine under par for the 36 holes, four strokes ahead of Paul Maddy (72 and 67) of Gog Magog Golf Club, Cambridge.
Dave Salisbury (unattached) from Essex was third, a further stroke behind at 4 under par (71 and 69), having recorded the Tour’s first hole in one along the way.
This was the second event on the new Midas Tour, the UK’s newest pro tour, and was sponsored by golf range-finder and navigation producer Sky Caddie.
Tour director Paul Seymour said: “Dan’s experience really came to the fore, but there was some great golf right through the field – and special congratulations go to Dave Salisbury for that hole in one.”
The tour is designed to provide a stepping stone for the next generation of Britain’s Ryder Cup stars, and its impressive line-up also includes players, like Gaunt, with top-level international experience.
The order of merit is sponsored by golf clothing label, Lateral Hazard.
The next event takes place at The Players’ Club, Codrington, Bristol, on May 12-13.
