KNOX IN MONEY AGAIN AFTER
8-BIRDIE BLITZ IN FLORIDA
Florida-based Russell Knox from Inverness earned $3,702 for a joint fourth place finish in the NGA Hooters Tour Winter Series event at Stonegate Golf Club at Solvita, Florida today.
Knox, pictured right, who stayed on in Florida and turned professional after four years on the American college circuit as a student at Jacksonville University, had rounds of 72, 70 and 64 for a 10-under-par total of 206. His bogey-free final round, the second-best of the day, included an outward half of 31 with birdies at the third, fourth, seventh, eighth and ninth. He came home in 33 with three more birdies at the 14th, 15th and 18th.
Knox is sixth in the Winter Series money table with $8,971 from four events, featuring finishes of joint 22nd ($924), joint 19th ($1310), joint fifth ($3035) and now tied fourth ($3702).
He finished six shots behind the winner of the $12,000 first prize, Bryant MacKellar from Alabama. MacKellar shot 71, 69 and 60 for 16-under-par 200. He had an eagle and 10 birdies in halves of 29 and 31 on the final day.
Scots David Kirkpatrick and Scott Jamieson failed to survive the 36-hole cut on Wednesday.
