ELLIOT SALTMAN IMPROVES BUT HE STILL
NEEDS BIG EFFORT OVER LAST TWO ROUNDS
Elliot Saltman from Craigielaw shot a three-under-par 69 in the second round of the Asian Tour Qualifying School eliminator at Borneo Golf & Country Club today.
That puts the rookie pro on one-under-par 143 and in joint 23rd place at this venue. He survived the halfway cut - 82 players on 152 or better - to contest the final two rounds but he still faces an uphill task to being among the 14 or so players who will go forward to the Asian Tour Final Q School next week.
Brother Lloyd Saltman was granted exemption from the eliminator because of his outstanding CV as an amateur.
South Wales-based Scot Jack Doherty is also competing at Borneo G&CC and he has an even harder task than Elliot Saltman. Jack has scored 75 and 71 for 146 and is lying joint 44th.
Tougher still for a third Scot in the Borneo field, John McKenzie. He is lying joint 70th on 151 with scores of 72 and 79.
Korea's Kim Young-Jin leads with 68 and 64 for 132 - two ahead of Australian Peter Cooke (66-68) and four clear of third-placed Englishman Gareth Davies (68-68).
It's not only Scotland that's getting rough weather just now - play was suspended at the other Asian Tour Stage 1 eliminator at Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club. They hope to resume play but, if not, they will have to make up the time on Friday and Saturday.
