NEIL COLQUHOUN BEATS THE WEATHER AND
76 OTHER HARDY SOULS AT WHITEKIRK

By DUNCAN IRELAND
Secretary, Edinburgh & East of Scotland Alliance
Well, if we were lucky with the weather last year then we're getting the other extreme now. Bet your all glad I'm giving up now!
Some 77 incredibly brave or perhaps slightly daft players made the trip to Whitekirk.
The general overall scoring was understandably slightly worse than normal but nevertheless no-one could beat the winner of the Pitreavie Trophy, none other than our president, professional Neil Colquhoun. His one-under-par 71 was not only the best scratch score by three shots but also the best net score too. Very well done to Neil as it's not too often a professional wins the actual tournament.
Young trainee professional Neil Fenwick (King's Acre) managed a very respectable two-over 74 to finish second scratch on his own, two shots ahead of joint third Stuart Callan (Bathgate) and big Andy Marshall (Houston Driving Range).
Over on the handicap side of things, Ian Jeavons (Dunbar) had a very respectable 72 off six to beat Willie Laing (Prestonfield), Willie Marr (West Lothian) and Justin White (Harrison) by two clear shots.
On to Gullane in a fortnight for the Richardson & Brownlee Invitation Greensomes. Please remember that EESGA members cannot play with another EESGA member in this event and that professional members must invite an amateur partner.
I hope to see as may of you as possible on the day as it will be my last day in charge and a replacement should be lined up to take over in the New Year. I'd recommend being early as this is normally a very popular event and the last tee-off cannot be much later than noon as it'll be getting dark from 3.30pm.
