LLOYD SUCCEEDS YOUNG BROTHER ZACK

AS WORLD HICKORY CHAMPION

Rookie professional, Lloyd Saltman won the World Hickory Championship with a one over par 72 over his home links of Craigielaw today.

He pipped Fraser Mann (Musselburgh) for the title and the £1,712 first prize by one shot at the head of a field of 56. Fraser received £1,369.

The leading amateur scratch prize went to Lloyd's younger brother Zak (also Craigielaw), the winner last year, who tied for third place with Steven Taylor (Bothwell Castle) on 75.

A group of four pros, Paul McKechnie (Braid Hills), Chris Kelly (Cawder), Fraser McLaughlan (Bothwell Castle) and yesterday's Pro-Am winner Dean Robertson (Mearns Castle) were grouped on 76.

Scott Patrick from the Glen won the amateur handicap prize with a net 75 off nine.

Everyone truly got into the spirit of the occasion, with the field dressed in some very colourful long socks and plus twos despite the weather.

Each competitor was limited to only six clubs of pre-1935 vintage, which certainly contributed, along with the weather, to a very admirable pace of play.
