ROBERTSON WINS £1,164 WITH HICKORY
SHAFTS AT CRAIGIELAW PRO-AM

Permitted to use only six authentic hickory-shafted golf clubs which were twice as old as he is, 37-year-old Dean Robertson (pictured right) won today’s curtain-raising pro-am at Craigielaw Golf Club.
The World Hickory Championship over 18 holes will be played at the same venue on Friday.
Robertson’s two-over-par 73 won him the top cash prize of £1,164 by a single shot from Mark King and Steven Rettie.
Robertson did manage to get three birdies with his hickories, which had to pre-date 1935 – at the ninth, 11th and 18th in halves of 36 (one over par) and 37 (one over par).
Paul McKechnie (Braid Hills), who had an individual round of 77, led the “Leith Links” trio of Brian Duncan (handicap 18), Scott Patrick (9) and Stewart Morrison (3) to victory in the team event with a net score of eight-under-par 63, which represented very good golf indeed.
