ABERDONIAN MICHAEL IS BACK ON
TRACK ON US PGA TOUR
The US PGA Tour career of 22-year-old Aberdeen-born Michael Sim is back on track and he is looking to improve in this week’s Buick Open on last weekend’s joint 36th place finish which earned him $27,042 in the Travelers’ Championship.
Sim, who qualified for the US Tour through finishing in the top 20 of last season’s Nationwide Tour money-winners, was unable to make his debut on the No 1 circuit until April after being diagnosed with a stress fracture of the lower back last November.
After finishing joint 18th and earning $76,860 in his comeback event, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in mid-April, Sim had more fitness problems to overcome and he missed the cut in three subsequent tour events over a two-month period, although he did go back to the Nationwide Tour for a one-off, confidence-boosting 14th place finish which earned him $10,200 in early June.
Michael was seven when he emigrated with his parents to Perth, Western Australia in the early 1990s. In his teens in Australia, young Sim became a leading amateur golfer and was world ranked No 1 for a spell before he turned pro in late 2005.
