PGA EUROPRO TOUR EVENT AT
CARDRONA HOTEL, PEEBLES
Englisman Neil Walker clinched a dramatic one-shot victory on the final day of the latest PGA EuroPro Tour tournament.
Walker fired a birdie at the 18th hole for a 71 and a 12-under-par total of 204 to defeat compatriot Christopher Hanson and scoop £10,000 at the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf and Country Club at Peebles.
At the start of the day, Walker, who finished second at Wensum Valley last month, was one shot ahead of Hanson but the lead frequently changed hands on a thrilling end to the competition.
Walker bogeyed three of the first five holes and that gave Hanson, who represents Crosland Heath club, Huddersfield, the upper hand as he had a three-shot advantage after 43 of the 54 holes.
A double-bogey 5 by Walker at the par 3 13th looked like it could prove costly but he responded in fantastic style by birdieing the 14th, 15th and 18 to snatch victory.
Hanson also signed off with a 71 for 205 and earned the £5,000 runner-up prize.
Matthew Ford (Marriott Tudor Park) finished third after a third-day 68 left him on 10-under 206. His cash prize was £2,500. He was left regretting one poor hole on Wednesday when he registered a triple bogey 7 at the third.
The South Wales-based Doherty brothers from Glasgow had their best payday for a while.
Former Scottish boys match-play champion Paul crammed six birdies into a closing round of 70 to finish joint sixth on 212. Paul birdied the 10th, 13th, 17th and 18th to climb up the leaderboard in dramatic fashion in the closing stages. He earned £1,100.
Older brother Jack finished 10th equal of 215 after a seven-birdie 67 which included bogeys at the 11th and 12th. Jack earned £725.
