CLACKMANNANSHIRE COUNTY NEWS
From Hugh Hunter
With the county golf season up and running, the diary is pretty full for the next two weeks. The six county clubs will be contesting the Clackmannanshire fours title at Tullialllan with the semi-finals and finals on Tuesday and Thursday, May 8 and 10.
Each club is represented by three couples and the individual matches are all keenly contested so they should be good value for any spectators and supporters.
On thbe Sunday prior to this, it's the turn of the young county hopefuls when they contest the Clackmannanshire boys' championship, also over the Tulliallan course. County officials will be keen to see any potential golfing talent, expecially in the lower age groups.
Boys will also be trying to qualify for their match-play titles, held over Dollar, Tillicoultry and Tulliallan.
SENIORS' CHAMPIONSHIP
Top Wee County senior player Bob Stewart (Tulliallan) is the only Clackmannanshire entry in the Scottish seniors' championship at Drumpellier, Lanarkshire from May 22 to 24.
The title is decided over three rounds - with a cut aftrer two - and Bob will be hoping for a good performance to set himself up for the new, prestigious Scottish seniors' circuit to be held in mid-summer.
The Scottish seniors' championship is very popular, attracting a large entry from the home countries. This year is no exception and the entry numberrs 176 with a handicap ballot of 5.2.
As well as the top home players, there is a contingent of eight from America and one lone Swede.
