FIFE WIN PROVAN SALVER WITH STRONG FINISH TO BEAT CLACKMANNANSHIRE
Fife won the inter-area men’s match-play team tournament for the Provan Salver with a 5 ½-2 ½ win over Clackmannshire at Burntisland Golf Club.
In the other match of the final programme, Angus beat Perth & Kinross 5-3 at Arbroath.
Fife topped the final table with 2pt out of 3, Clackmannanshire and Perth & Kinross shared second place with 2pt and Angus were the wooden spoonists with 1pt.
Clackmannanshire, team picture above by Hugh Hunter, had high hopes of retaining the trophy when they were up in four matches, square in two and down in only two at the turn of their match against Fife.
Steven Horne (Tulliallan) won the top match for Clackmannanshire by beating James White (Lundin), last year’s Scottish boys’ match-play champion, by 4 and 2.
Winners for a Fife team who finished their ties strongly were Brian Souter (Leven Thistle, Scott Michie (Thornon), David Imrie (Thornton), Alex Main (Thornton) and Sutart Meiklejohn (Aberdour).
