EDZELL PRO-AM

WARDELL COVERS FIRST NINE IN 31

Whitekirk Golf Club professional Paul Wardell reduced the first nine holes to only 31 strokes in winning the top prize of £1,064 in the £7,500 Edzell Golf Club pro-am today.

Wardell finished with a five-under-par 66 but all the magic came before the turn. Paul birdied the first, second, third, sixth and ninth to be five under par after nine holes.

The inward half was positively humdrum after that – nine straight pars for 35 home.

He won by one stroke from Ross Drummond (Prestwick Driving Range) and Colin Gillies (Kingsfield).

The last group to finish, Alan Reid (unattached) and the Angus Tyre Company trio of Bill Annandale (14), Andrew Mitchell (19) and Duncan Henderson (16), won the pro-am team event with a net score of 20-under-par 122.
They pipped the clubhouse leaders - Lee Vannet (Carnoustie) and the Ryden team of Gus Stewart (12), Mike Loggie (14) and Dave Manzie (4) - by one shot.
