African men's amateur stroke-play championship

Johnston and Syme joint 2nd, four behind


leader with one round to go

Liam Johnston (Dumfries and County) and Connor Syme (Drumoig) are sharing second place on seven-under-par 209 with one round to go in the African amateur stroke-play championship at Leopard Creek Country Club, South Africa.
Johnston, pictured upper right, has had rounds of 72, 67 and 70 while Syme, pictured lower right, has shot 67, 70 and 72.

With 18 holes to go, the Scots are two shots off the lead which has been held from the start by 16-year-old South African Christo Lamprecht who won his national championship last week. Lamprecht has had scores of 66, 70 and 71 for nine-under 207.
There are three other Scots in the top 10.
Jamie Stewart (Old Ranfurly) is lying fifth with scores of 73, 68 and 70 for 211.
Last year's Scottish U18 match-play boys champion Eric McIntosh (Bruntsfield Links) is sixth with scores of 69, 72 and 71 for 212.

Peebles' Craig Howie has had rounds of 75, 69 and 70 for joint ninth place on 214.
Calum Fyfe from Cawder is joint 12th on 215 with rounds of 77, 69 and 69.
Craig Ross (Kirkhill) is sharing 37th place with scores of 75, 73 ad 76 for 224.
Banchory's Sam Locke is joint 48th on 226 after rounds of 76, 76 and 74.
Scotland won the team event with a 16-under-par aggregate, two strokes ahead the South African junior team. The third-placed England team were well behind the leaders with a six over par tally.
Ten teams took part.
