Five Scots in top 10 at halfway in African

stroke-play

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Scotland has five players in the leading 10 at the halfway stage of the African men's amateur stroke-play championship at Leopard Creek Country Club, South Africa.

Connor Syme (Drumoig), ranked No. 18 in the world's amateurs, is in second place on seven-under-par 137 after rounds of 67 and 70.
Syme, pictured, is one shot behind 16-year-old South African Christo Lamprecht who last week won the South African amateur match-play championship.
Liam Johnston (Dumfries and Co) is tied for third place on 139 with rounds of 72 and 67. His five-under-par 67 was the best of the second round, despite finishing with bogeys at the 16th and 18th after being seven under par for the round after 15 holes.
Jamie Stewart and Eric McIntosh (Bruntsfield Links), last year's Scottish boys' match-play champion, are sharing seventh place on 141. Stewart has had scores of 73 and 68, McIntosh 69 and 72.
Craig Howie (Peebles) is just outside the top 10 with scores of 75 and 69 for level par 144 and a T12 position.
