SCOT KARIS THROUGH TO LAST EIGHT IN AUSTRALIA

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Melrose-born, Queensland-based Karis Davidson, 18, is through to the quarter-finals of the Australian women's amateur golf championship at Yarra Yarra Golf Club, Victoria.
Karis, pictured, the No 5 seed, beat Inez Beatrice Wanamarta (Malaysia) by 4 and 3 to reach the last eight.
Six South Koreans and New Zealand's Chantelle Cassidy make up the rest of the quarter-finalists.
The Davidson family emigrated from Innerleithen to Queensland when Karis was only nine. She is now No 103 in the world women's golf rankings. No other Scots-born female is in the top 300.
Davidson will play Ga-young Lee (South Korea) for a place in the semi-finals.
