John, also winner of the NE Alliance championship for the second time in three years, had actually won the Scratch Order of Merit well before the final counting fixture, the second round of the championship at Craibstone.
John, brought up in Inverurie where he still lives, is also a member at Kintore Golf Club.
Duff won or tied for first at Craibstone (September 3), Newburgh (November 26), Spey Bay (February18), Duff House Royal (March 11) and, of course, hewon the two-round championship at DHR and Craibstone (March 11-18. He also had several top-5 finishes.
John's Order of Merit points tally of 6,698 was more than 2,000pt ahead of runner-up Lee Vannet, the Craibstone teaching pro.
Tony Robertson, now a reinstated amateur at Peterculter after being an assistant professional at Murcar Links, won the third scratch prize.
Both Vannet and Robertson leapfrogged over the Alliance captain and Royal Abedeen senior assistant pro Joel Hopwood who dropped from second to fourth in the table after Wednesday's points had been totalled up .... by Joel, himself, who devised the points schemes for the Orders of Merit and updated the tables every week for Scottishgolfview.com
