Weather conditions remain ideal along the California coast, where a former champion now shares the top spot on the leaderboard at the AT and T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. 
Here's how things look at the halfway point, as Brandt Snedeker and Matt Jones are one shot clear of the field:
Leaderboard: Brandt Snedeker (-12), Matt Jones (-12), Justin Hicks (-11), Charlie Beljan (-10), Michael Putnam (-10), Daniel Berger (-10), Billy Horschel (-10), David Hearn (-10)
What it means: Snedeker won this event in 2013, and he is again positioned to contend for the trophy after a 67 at Spyglass Hill, the most difficult of the three courses used this week. He's joined by Jones, who won last year in Houston, though a host of contenders sit just off the pace with one round to go before the field is trimmed to the top 60 plus ties.
Round of the day: Jason Day was well off the pace after an even-par 72 in the opening round, but the Aussie bounced back to card a 9-under 62 Friday at Monterey Peninsula. Just one week after winning at Torrey Pines, he moved up to 9 under overall and three shots behind the co-leaders heading into the weekend.
Best of the rest: Beljan won at Disney in 2012 and lost in a playoff at Riviera in 2013, and he is again in the mix after a 63 at Monterey Peninsula. The veteran had nine birdies against just one bogey during his second round, including a run of five birdies in six holes from Nos. 1-6.
Biggest disappointment: It wasn't a disaster, but a 1-over 72 did drop John Daly from the first page of the leaderboard to the middle of the pack. Daly wasn't able to build on his momentum from an opening 65, making just two birdies all day at Monterey Peninsula. Amid ideal conditions, he was the only player currently in the top 60 who failed to shoot par or better in the second round.
Main storyline heading into Saturday: The player to watch is Snedeker, a former champ who appears in command of his game after hitting all 18 greens in regulation during his second round. He is one of only two players (along with Horschel) who has yet to make a bogey this week, and both will head back to the host course for each of the next two rounds.
