JIMENEZ COPES WITH HEAVY COLD TO LEAD  THAILAND CLASSIC
                                                                                                              EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
He may be the oldest player in the field but Spanish star Miguel Angel Jiménez showed the rest how it is done with a second-round, six under par 66 to move to the top of the leaderboard at the inaugural True Thailand Classic
The 51 year old, who has won 21 titles on The European Tour, fired seven birdies and a bogey despite suffering from a heavy cold to reach 11 under par overall, one ahead of Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat, who signed for a 67.
Another home favourite, Thongchai Jaidee, is another shot back at nine under after also carding a 66, alongside Australian Scott Hend (68) and Canadian Richard T Lee (67).
It was a good day for the Thais as 22 year old Panuphol Pittiyarat won a four-storey townhouse at Black Mountain, worth around €300,000, for A hole-in-one at the par three 14th.
Quotes

Miguel Angel Jiménez
“I’m very happy. I am disappointed to make bogey on the last but overall I played very solid and made a lot of birdies. You’re always happy when you’re under par – and the more under par you are, the happier you are. I was seven under par with one hole to play, but I finished six under par, but that’s the game. I was hitting shots right at the flags today.

"You need to be in the right places on the greens. You need to put the ball on the right side of the hole because the putts are very fast. I like it. I have a heavy cold and I’m very bunged up and slept terribly last night, but apart from that I’m fine.”

Kiradech Aphibarnrat

“I’ve been striking the ball well and haven’t made many mistakes. I got into trouble on 18 in the first round and I missed a short putt on that hole as well today. But apart from that, it has been good. I’m happy with the way I’m playing right now and it’s a huge boost to my confidence. I’ve got my family and golf fans here this week and I’m just trying to perform well.”

Thongchai Jaidee

“I hit a lot of good shots but missed a few short putts. I missed from three feet three times. Otherwise I played great today and hit the ball very well. It should’ve been more than six under today. Sometimes you lose your confidence with the putter and the greens are very tricky here – a lot of guys are struggling.

"But it’s great to be playing at home in Thailand and I’m performing well. I’m two behind so that’s not too bad. I’ll be trying to catch up tomorrow.”
