TITLE-HOLDING SCOT THROUGH TO LAST 4 AT PRESTWICK
EWEN FERGUSON WINS TITANTIC
QUARTER-FINAL STRUGGLE
Bearsden's Ewen Ferguson, pictured, is still on course to become the first player since the 1930s to win back-to-back British U18 boys' amateur championships.
He survived a titantic struggle in the quarter-finals this morning at Prestwick, beating Lewis George (Delamere Forest) at the 22nd hole.
Ferguson's first objective is to reach two British boys' finals in a row. The last Scot to do that was Fraserburgh's Jordan Findlay who won his first final but lost the second.
Winner of both the Scottish boys' match-play and stroke-play titles this season, Ferguson is better equipped and in much better form than Findlay was when he reached the British boys championship final for a second year.
Ewen now meets Sweden's Oskar Bergqvist - a 3 and 2 conquerer this morning of Christoffer Bring (Denmark) in this afternoon's semi-finals.
The other semi-final will feature Irleland's Rowan Lester (who beat Krisoffer Reitain of Norway 2 and 1) and Tim Harry (Wales), 3 and 2 conqueror of Bradley Moore (England).
So, one Scot, one Swede, one Englishman and one Welshman make up the last four - not a bad advertisement for the standard of boys' golf in the United Kingdom.
