WELSHMAN LEADS IN EUROPEAN TOUR EVENT

Determined Dredge dominant in Denmark

- four strokes clear after birdie blitz

 EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Bradley Dredge birdied four out of his last six holes at Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort to open up a four-stroke lead at the halfway mark of Made in Denmark.
The 41 year old Welshman, who is slowly regaining his form after an injury-ravaged 2013 campaign, birdied the 13th, 15th, 16th and 18th holes for a three under par round of 68 to move to eight under par.

Englishman Simon Wakefield (67) is his nearest rival on four under par.
Two-time European Tour winner Dredge is chasing his first title since the 2006 Omega European Masters and is also trying to improve his position in the Race to Dubai, where he currently sits in 182nd position.
He will also have home favourites Thomas Björn (73) and Thorbjørn Olesen (70) to contend with over the weekend, despite joint overnight leader Björn losing ground with a round that contained only one birdie.

The Danish pair are tied for third position on three under par, along with Scotland’s David Drysdale and England’s Garrick Porteous, both of whom signed for rounds of 68.
Key player quotes
Bradley Dredge (-8): “If someone had said I’ll give you a four-shot lead after 36 holes you would take it. We’re halfway through the tournament and I’ve been in similar positions to this before.

"I know a lot can happen and I’ve got to play really well over the weekend. There are some really good players chasing me so I have to keep playing the way I have been and convert the chances I get.
“I feel as though the Tour events I’m playing in this year are like Majors to me, with my situation. I know that when I come out here I have to play well and perform."
Simon Wakefield (-4): “I actually felt I played pretty well today. I was here in 1999 and finished ninth in a Challenge Tour event, but I don’t remember the course at all. The first time I saw the course yesterday was nice, and I played lovely today.”
Thomas Björn (-3): “It was just not quite there today. My wedges were poor today which is unlike me and I didn’t really take advantage of those short holes.

" One birdie all day isn’t really going to do it as you are going to make some birdies in these conditions. It was just not quite there. When I had my chances I didn’t really get the short stick working. It was just one of those days. It was down to fatigue a little bit, playing seven out of eight weeks.
"The brain wasn’t quite with it today. You have to just take it for what it is. I’m still in the golf tournament and I have to work from here.”
Thorbjørn Olesen (-3): “It was a bit easier today and I was not on top of my game. I put myself in some awkward positions off the tee and I didn’t have decent control. I made it tricky for myself
."
