SCOTTISH SENIOR OPEN AMATEUR STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

BROTHERSTON BOUNCES BACK FOR

CLEAR LEAD AT BLAIRGOWRIE

Ian Brotherston (Dumfries and County), shrugged off the disappointment of his last-round slump in the European seniors title in Spain at the weekend, to take a three-stroke lead at the end of the first day of the Scottish senior open amateur
stroke-play championship at Blairgowrie today
Brotherston shot a five-under-par 67 over the Rosemount course at the Perthshire venue.
His nearest challengers on the 70 mark are Stephen East (Moortown), former Aberdeen Links champion Barry Brooks (Meldrum House, Philip Slater (Sandiway) and Bob Edgar (Blackpool North Shore).
The field of over 100 will be cut to the leading 50 and ties after the second round.
