BALLOCHMYLE ARE AYRSHIRE CLUB CHAMPIONS

The host club Ballochmyle trio of Graeme Rowan, Craig Hamilton and William Flemint won the 2011 Ayrshire club championship title over their home course on sunday.
In glorious sunny weather, 60 of Ayrshire's best club golfers, representing 20 clubs, competed for the R.L. Crawford Trophy, with the best two scratch scores from three counting towards the team total.
Playing in the early games, Ballochmyle set an impressive total for the other team to challenge. Craig Hamilton led the way with what was to prove the best individual score of the day, carding a 2 under par 68. Graeme Rowan added a one under par 69 with William Fleming adding a useful 70 as the third score, which would be required in the event of a tie.
Irvine Ravenspark and Maybole, on 144, got closest of the early starters to the Ballochmyle total, and when the Prestwick team, who won the title two years ago and went on to national success, came in three short of the Ballochmyle score on 141, only Troon Welbeck of the remaining teams had a realistic chance of beating the hosts.
Stephen Murray, needing a three under par 67 to add to Marc Smith's 69, was two under par on the 11th tee but faltered a little on the inward half. Despite finishing with an impressive birdie four, Murray could only manage a one over par 71, which was enough to secure the runners up bearth for the Troon Welbeck side but ensured that the 2011 title would go to Ballochmyle.
The CSS for the event was 70 (+1)
Ballochmyle now go forward to represent Ayrshire in the Scottish Club Championship final at Falkirk Tryst on Sunday 25th September.
