St Andrews Links Trust open tournaments get underway
Thomas Rowland from Prudhoe wins Boys' Open scratch medal
North-east of England golfer Thomas Rowland, a +3 handicap player from Prudhoe, won the scratch medal for the lowest score in the qualifying round for the 2010 St Andrews Boys' Open today.
The 17 year-old, from Prudhoe Golf Club near Newcastle, shot four birdies on the front nine of the Eden Course and a solitary bogey on the 16th to post a three under par 67. He finished one shot clear of Callum Cromar of Aboyne, Ewen Ferguson from Bearsden and Christopher Howard from Manchester to lead the 32 qualifiers for the matchplay stages of the Merchants' Cup.
