JAMES WHITE WINS SUTHERLAND CHALICE BY THREE

Stirling University student James White (Lundin), a former Scottish boys' match-play champion, won his first Scottish Golf Union 72-hole Order of Merit event at Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club today.
White, who achieved a top-10 finish in the world men's universities individual championships earlier this year, put together four steady rounds of 70, 69, 68 and 69 for a four-under-par total of 276 to win the Sutherland Chalice by three shots.
Runner-up on 279 was Sam Binning (Ranfurly Castle) with scores of 70, 68, 73 and 68.
Joint third on 280 were Aberdour's Scott Crichton, who has improved considerably with his successful experience on the American college circut, and former British boys' champion Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh), another with US college golf experience in abundance.
This was Findlay's best finish for some time.
Halfway leader Peter Latimer (St Andrews New), winner of the recent East of Scotland Open, killed off his victory hopes in this one with an 8 at the par-3 15th in a third-round 76. He finished bravely with a four-round 68 but could not repair the damage.
